What is a Spiritual Medium, Anyway?

Spiritual Psychic Medium

If you’ve ever met a medium or were interested in connecting with one, you may have found yourself confused.

Mediums sometimes use different titles to describe their abilities. It’s really preference. Some describe themselves as an intuitive medium, spiritual medium, evidential medium, clairvoyant medium, or the most common—a psychic medium.

Regardless of the label, mediums have one common ability: they communicate with those who’ve crossed over to the Spirit world.

Why are they called mediums?

Because we meet Spirit in the middle of a vibrational frequency.

Sound confusing? It’s really not, so stay with me.

Here in the physical human world, we vibrate at a lower and denser frequency. The slower we vibrate, the more solid we are (e.g., the human body). But when we cross over, our vibration is faster and lighter, which allows us to lose the dense physical body and exist solely in Spirit form.

Let’s use a radio as the perfect analogy.

Imagine an FM radio dial. The low end of the dial is station 88. This is where everyone in the physical world listens. The high end of the dial is station 108. This is where our loved ones in the Spirit world listen. In order to connect with a loved one, we have to meet somewhere in the middle. As a medium, I need to raise my vibration and Spirit must lower their vibration to tune into station 98. This is why we are called “mediums.”

Is a psychic the same thing?

No. There is a saying in the Spiritual community that “all mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums.”

In short, mediums not only communicate with those who’ve crossed over, but they can interpret your past, present, and future by reading the energy that emits from your aura.

Psychics cannot communicate with those who’ve crossed over. Instead, they only read your aura energy to interpret your past, present, and future.

Make sense?

So, if you ever decide to see a “psychic” or a “psychic-medium,” make sure you ask them to explain what they do. Don’t give them any hints. Be cautious as to how they respond. And make sure they only work with love and light.

How does a medium receive Spirit messages?

Mediums tune into a Spirit’s energy to ask questions and receive messages.

As you know, each person has a signature personality and presence. Just because a person crosses over doesn’t mean they lose those characteristics. They are still them!

Once a link is made, a medium uses their “clair” senses (a.k.a., extrasensory perception) to communicate with a spirit. “Clair” is a French word that means “clear,” and there are six main clair senses that a medium will use:

The Clair Senses of Mediumship

To get their messages through, Spirit will imprint memories, music, signs, symbols, and feelings using the senses that the medium uses best. For example, I use all five, but some other mediums will use two or three. There is no one way. Like any talent in life, mediums use the senses that come most naturally.

Mediumship development is real.

Spiritual Development

Many people don’t realize that whether you were born a medium or the skills came later in life, mediums go through years of development so they can learn to fine- tune their Clair senses. We sit in mediumship circles, deliver free readings, and have 1:1 mentors.

Like learning any new language, it can be quite challenging. But it’s necessary. For example, I sat in development for many years before I delivered one message. I take it serious, and I feel anyone with the skill (inborn or late) should be trained properly.

But what I’ve learned over the years is that a Spirit’s messages are never wrong. I am only the conduit and an imperfect human, so sometimes I can misinterpret a message, sign, or symbol one way, whereas the loved one usually knows the true meaning. But in the end, there is one thing I am sure of: Spirit and I always come to a happy medium.
